Book Description
Macroeconomics, the study of the economy as a whole, attempts to answer many critical economy related questions. We will do this by first understanding the nature of the basics concepts of macroeconomics, then proceeding to how these apply to specific types of situations. Macroeconomists observe that economies differ across countries and that they change over time. These observations provide both the motivation for developing macroeconomic theories and the data for testing them. This knowledge is useful both for explaining economic events and for formulating economic policy. Macroeconomic history is not a simple story, but it provides a rich motivation for macroeconomic theory. While the basic principles of macroeconomics do not change from decade to decade, the macroeconomist must apply these principles with flexibility and creativity to meet changing circumstances. The chapters themselves are written using a “modular” format. In particular, chapters generally consist of three main content sections that break down a particular topic into manageable parts. Each content section contains not only an exposition of the material at hand but also learning objectives, summaries, examples, and problems. Our goal is to encourage active learning by including many examples and many problems of different types. The well-known theoretical result is presented methodically and consistently as it is in this text. CONTENTS: Introduction To Macro Economics, National Income Accounting, Money, Inflation,The Classical Theory of Output and Employment, Keynesian Theory of Income Determination,IS-LM Model. ABOUT THE AUTHORS: Ms. LOVELEEN GUPTA is an Assistant Professor at Bharati College, Delhi University, Delhi. Mr. PRADEEP KUMAR PANDA is an Economist. He is awarded with Best Young Researcher Award 2016 for outstanding contribution to research and publication in the field of Economics by GRABS Educational Charitable Trust, Chennai.

Book Summary
*Macroeconomics* is a comprehensive textbook that introduces readers to the fundamental principles and applications of macroeconomic theory. Designed primarily for undergraduate students, the book explains how an economy functions as a whole and examines the key factors that influence economic growth, employment, inflation, and national income. It provides a systematic understanding of macroeconomic concepts while highlighting their relevance in analysing real-world economic situations and formulating effective public policies.
The book begins by introducing the scope and significance of macroeconomics, explaining how economists study aggregate economic variables and the interactions between households, businesses, governments, and the external sector. It emphasises that economies differ across countries and evolve over time, making macroeconomic theory essential for understanding changing economic conditions and policy challenges.
A major focus of the book is **National Income Accounting**, where readers learn the concepts, methods, and significance of measuring national income. The text explains various national income aggregates, methods of estimation, and the role of national income statistics in assessing economic performance and guiding policy decisions.
The discussion on **Money and Inflation** explores the nature and functions of money, the banking system, and the relationship between money supply and economic activity. The book examines the causes, types, and effects of inflation, while explaining how monetary policy can influence price stability and economic growth.
The book further presents the **Classical Theory of Output and Employment**, highlighting the assumptions and mechanisms through which markets achieve equilibrium under classical economics. It contrasts these ideas with the **Keynesian Theory of Income Determination**, which demonstrates the importance of aggregate demand in determining national income and employment, particularly during periods of economic recession or unemployment.
Another significant topic covered is the **IS-LM Model**, which integrates the goods and money markets to explain the simultaneous determination of income and interest rates. The model provides students with a practical framework for understanding the effects of fiscal and monetary policies on the economy.
To facilitate effective learning, the book adopts a modular and student-friendly approach. Each chapter is organised into clearly structured sections with defined learning objectives, explanatory discussions, illustrative examples, chapter summaries, and practice questions. This format encourages active learning, conceptual clarity, and analytical thinking while helping students apply theoretical concepts to practical economic issues.
Overall, *Macroeconomics* serves as an accessible and well-organised resource for students, teachers, and competitive examination aspirants. By combining theoretical foundations with practical illustrations and structured learning tools, the book equips readers with the knowledge and analytical skills required to understand macroeconomic phenomena and evaluate economic policies in a rapidly changing global environment.
